PAWS DBA Event Rules

1. De Bellis Antiquitatis (DBA) version 2.2 will be used.

2. A “World Cup” format will be used.  Initially competitors will use their own armies and terrain (loan armies will be available).  Competitors will be placed in groups of 4 or more.  Every competitor will play other competitors in their group, to a minimum of 3 battles.   Each battle will be aproximately 30-35 minutes long (45 minutes for the final).

3. Scoring shall be as follows:

a. 5 points for a complete victory (as defined in the rule book);

b. 2 points for a draw (game incomplete when time is called), if the player has destroyed more enemy elements than he has himself lost;

c. 1 point for any other draw;

d. 0 points for a loss.

4. In the event of a tie within a group the winner will be determined by:

a. head-head record;

b. most generals killed;

c. most camps/BUA sacked;

d. most elements killed.

5. The winner of each group, plus the best of the rest, will then play semi-finals and a final as a knock-out tournament to determine the overall winner.  During the knock-out stage, competitors will secretly choose an army from all those that will be available.

a. The best placed of the junior competitors who fail to make the main knock-out stage will compete for the junior prize. This junior knockout stage will always result in a junior final, and may also include junior semi-finals if time and numbers permit.

6. If there are insufficient players to form at least two groups, then the event may be restructured as a single group, with each player playing all other opponents. In this case, a knock-out phase may not be played.

7. Element selection and army aggression may not be changed between battles. Army aggression must be appropriate for the theme century.
