The December 2005 DBA Event

The last DBA Event of 2005 was held on December 10th, with a theme of "Western Europe" (C15th AD)".

Final - Photo 1

The Final was fought between Martin Smith, using a Scots Common Army (IV/16, on the left), and Andrew Wilkinson, using Medieval French (IV/64c, on the right).

Final - Photo 2

In the centre of this photo we can see Andrew's Scots pikemen take on some of their countrymen fighting for the French. The French knight nearest the camera would win his fight against the Scots general, recoiling him through the 5Wb behind. These warband would be destroyed in the following bound, and things started to look good for the French.

Final - Photo 3

However, as this photo of the game end shows, things then went the Scots way. The victorious French knight contiued to pursue forward and became surrounded. It was destroyed, as was the French Artillery element, which meant that the French army's Scots pike's flanks were exposed. The rear element of the nearest flank was attacked and, although it beat off the initial attack, the Scots' own schiltrons pressed home their advantage, destroying both front rank pike elements on the French side, the first because the turned rear rank prevented a recoil, and the second due to the 6-1 dice throw seen in the photo.

Martin was presented with the Title Holder's trophy by Adrian Webb.
